A Post Office in Buckhurst Hill was the first to reopen under the Essex County Council Scheme.
Station Way Post Office in Buckhurst Hill became the first Post Office in the UK to reopen thanks to the Essex County Council Post Office initiative and consistent community support and campaigning.
Station Way Post Office reopened on Saturday 13th September. It is hoped that the scheme will support more post offices to re-establish in the County and make services available to local residents.
This pioneering branch will also provide a range of Council services (known as a Community Information Point) to local residents and it is hoped that the Essex County Council scheme will help reopen other more rural Post Offices.
Essex County Council began ground breaking discussions with Post Office Limited to look at ways of reopening at least some of the Post Offices scheduled for closure. These negotiations have been the focus of National interest in what is been called the “Essex Model” to enable post Offices to reopen.
This paved the way for the reopening of more 2 rural post offices that had been closed during the Post Office Closure Programme, Little Hallingbury and Henham Sub Post Offices reopened in November and December 2008 thanks to community and ERP campaigning, and ECC funding.
