Essex Rural Strategy to be Updated - 2009
The current Essex Rural Strategy was published in 2005 and the Essex Rural Partnership Steering Group agreed last year that the time has come to update the Strategy
It was agreed some time ago that this should link in with the proposed timescale of publication of the Essex Rural Commission Report, so that key issues identified by the Commission can be incorporated into the Strategy
In October 2008 the ERP focussed it’s meeting on transport, and used this as an opportunity to identify issues in the county relating to this topic, and to begin to identify other key issues.
As a result of this meeting, and Steering Group meetings which followed, 6 key themes were chosen to create a framework for the Strategy; in broad terms these themes are: Housing, Access to Services (incl Transport), Rural Economy , Community Well-being, Environment and Rural Policy
In February 2009 a conference was staged by ERP to enable greater consultation around these themes. The event attracted over 60 delegates from a wide range of organisations and backgrounds, and allowed delegates to contribute to the wider discussion, and to spend an hour looking solely at one topic of interest/relevance.
The consultation process remains open, and a draft Strategy will be available for comment in due course. The timing of this is somewhat dependant on the publication of the Essex Rural Commission Report and so cannot be predicted at this point. It is hoped to have a new Strategy ready for launch by the end of 2009.
