Edible Essex Talk by Christine Walkden
Simple Ways to Grow Your Own
in the UK’s driest county
Thursday, 16th February 2012
19.30, Writtle College
Sponsered by Essex & Suffolk Water
There
is nothing like growing your own vegetables. The excitement of sowing a
seed, seeing it come through the soil, harvesting and then eating it is
one of life's great thrills. You do not even need a garden to grow
vegetables, as a seed tray, an old plastic milk bottle, a takeaway food
box or really any container can reap its rewards.
In
these economically difficult times, growing your own veg is an
attractive option for gardening novices as well as those with some
experience. In her talk, Christine will highlight how to make the most
of your vegetable garden or containers, with handy hints and tips on
getting it right first time, efficient watering and what grows well in
Essex, the driest county in the UK.
About the speaker:
Christine
Walkden hasbeen a horticulturist since the age of ten when she first
obtained an allotment and started growing vegetables and flowers, which
she sold to her school teachers and local residents. Christine is an

programmes. She is currently the resident gardening expert for BBC 1’s
The One Show.
This
talk is suitable for both novice vegetable growers and those looking
for a few handy tips. Christine will be signing her new book “No nonsense vegetable gardening”, so bring along your copy, or purchase one at the event.
